The stone base has a certain rigidity when the shape error of the hole processed makes the increase of the pressure of the stone, the stone cannot displace and skew in the radius direction. When honing to the final size, the stone can quickly retract, and the honing head can return from the hole.
Honing head can be divided into three types according to the processing objects.
1 General honing head
It is usually used to process medium aperture. It consists of grinding head body, honing stone, stone base, guide bar, spring and cone expansion core. When the expansion core cone moves, the stone can expand or shrink.
The honing head is a prismatic cylinder, and the number of honing stones is usually odd. The stone base is direct with the feed expanding cone, and there is no fixed pin and transition plate in the middle. The structure is simple and the feed system is rigid.
The outer diameter of the head should be based on the diameter of the processed hole. When the stone is shrinking, the outer diameter of the head should be smaller than that of the hole to be processed, so that the head can enter or exit the workpiece hole. When the stone is in the maximum expanding position, the outer diameter of the head should be at least equal to the final required size of the hole add the limit wear of the stone.

2 Small hole honing type
When honing the small hole with the diameter of 2-30MM, the honing head and the base are an integral whole, making the expanding core and head body are in contact with each other in the whole length and enhance the rigidity.
2.1 Singlestone honing type
It is suitable for machining holes with high straightness and 2-30MM aperture.

The wide guide bar is used to bear the resultant force of radial and tangential force produced by the stone to avoid the honing head deforming. The material of the guide bar is carbide or synthetic diamond. The guide bar can be made into a mosaic or coat the diamond powder on the surface of the head by electroplated or coated with coarse grain size diamond according to the aperture. 2.2 Opposite bushing honing head
It consists of 2 semicircular bushes, which is suitable for holes with discontinuous surface and high straightness requirements.
The radial expansion feed of honing head is by wedge expansion core which acts on the inclined surface of 2 semicircular bushes. The shrink is by the elastic force of 2 O-rings at both ends of the axle. It can be bonded to the surface of the head with a conventional abrasive stone or several soldiers with a low melting point can be welded to the surface of the head.
The length of the stone is twice the length of the stone selected by the general honing head. The head is used on the grinding machine for the cutting surface with stable machining accuracy, cutting efficiency about 10% than that of single stone honing, and long service life. 2.3 Adjustable Honing Head
It is used to bulk process high precision holes. The shape error of holes can be less than 0.5 microns, and the size error can be controlled within a 2-3 micron, and the surface roughness can reach Ra0.2 micron.
The honing head body is an integral sleeve with 2 axially symmetrical grooves on both sides. use single-pass honing tools, Coat the diamond grain with the thickness of 0.3-0.5MM on its surface, and the inner hole of the head is a conical hole. Conical expansion core in the conical hole can make the whole head body elastic deforming, and adjust the head to the predetermined size.
The machine with this kind of honing head is usually a vertical multi-axis and multi-position honing machine. The head is rigidly connected with the spindle. The workpiece fixture is designed to the floating type.
The motion of this head is different from that of the general one. On the hand, the head rotates, on the other hand, it approaches the workpiece radially and quickly, and the feed speed is 1-1.5m/min, and it returns quickly. One working cycle can be completed.
3 Special honing head
3.1 Short hole honing head
The head and honing mandrel can be made into one body and rigidly connected. The carbide guide bar is embedded on the honing head, which provides a measuring nozzle for the active measurement honing and keeps the honing head working stable.
The front convex part is the lead-in guide and the front end is the fixed guide in the floating fixture when head working, to ensure the perpendicularity of the honing hole axis and the end face.
Because the stone is short, the feed expansion core is a long single vertebral body to improve the rigidity and accuracy of the feed system.
3.2 Conical hole honing head
The conical axis and the head body rotate together by keys, and the honing head body also drives the stone base and stone to rotate and back-and-forth move ( the conical axis does not back-and-forth move).
Because the stone base and stone move along the conical surface of the conical mandrel and the conical mandrel does not move in an axial direction, so the taper accuracy of workpiece hole depends on that of the conical mandrel.
3.3 Large hole honing head
3.3.1 Convex ring type large hole head
The outer diameter of the convex ring is close to the honing aperture to support the stone base and bear the honing cutting force. It has good rigidity. The cross pin on the stone base is close to the inner end of the convex ring, locate the stone axially and bear the axial force during honing.
3.3.2 Adjustable large hole honing
Turn the central small gear can make the rack expand and shrink, and hone a certain diameter hole without replacing the honing head. If hone larger diameter hole, only need to replace the rack.
