Diamond pellets for optical glass

Diamond pellets are mainly used for grinding optical glass, and also for finish grinding of lens, ceramics, crystal and other optical elements.

Metal bond diamond finish pellets and diamond finish columns

Metal bond diamond pellets are used in the finish grinding process of optical glass elements. The main function of diamond pellets is to remove the damaged layer and rough surface left by the milling process, to ensure that the optical glass elements have a certain surface size and machining margin. Metal bond diamond pellets are made by mixing diamond powder, metal powder and filter, and then by cold pressing or hot pressing sintered.

Resin bond diamond super finish pellets and super finish columns

Resin bond pellets are used in super finish grinding process of optical glass elements, which remove the damaged layer (rough surface) left over from the previous finish grinding process, and further improve the shapes and sizes of optical elements, smoothness and aperture value. Also,the appearance is similar to the metal bond diamond pellet. Resin bond diamond pellets are made by mixing diamond powder, resin powder and filler, and then by cold pressing or hot pressing sintered.

Shapes

In addition to round pellets, finish/super finish pellets can also be made to triangles, squares, hexagons, etc. Diamond finish / super finish columns are divided into flat, flat concave, flat convex, double concave, double convex and so on. In order to chips removal, the end face processing has two slots, four slots, six slots and eight slots.

Use cases of diamond pellet 

1 General process: optical elements through finish grinding process – super finish grinding process -polishing.

2 Non-general process: Choose rough and finish two or more kinds of diamond finish pellets (columns) for two or more stages of finish grinding,  to do two processes of finish grinding and super finish grinding, and directly to the polishing process.

3 Non-general process: Get rid of the finish grinding process of diamond finish pellets (columns), and directly use two (or more) kinds of diamond super finish pellets (columns) for two or more stages of grinding, without polishing process, to achieve optical elements from blank to finished product processing.

Practice has proved that 2 and 3 two methods can achieve the same effect.
